The citizens of Northwest Wisconsin request that the legislature provide funding for needed highway improvements in Northwest Wisconsin, specifically funds sufficient to complete the widening of U.S. Highway 53 from Lampson to Solon Springs.
Eleven years ago, the first Superior Days group focused on one main issue: the completion of U.S. Highway 53 from Superior to Eau Claire as a four-lane divided expressway. We received support from the governor and legislature for that project to be completed in 1998. After the recent transportation budget was passed, it became apparent that the U.S. Highway 53 timetable of completion in 1998 was in jeopardy. We urge the governor and state legislature to allocate enough funding for the timely completion of U.S. Highway 53 from Lampson to Solon Springs to complete “the missing link” to Northern Wisconsin.
